2013 (First-year)
Cates saw action in five games in his first season at Southwestern. He hit .182 and added two RBIs on the year. His hard work in the classroom as earned him SCAC Academic Honor Roll accolades.
High School
Cates was a First Team All-District and Third Team All-Houston selection in 2011. In 2010 he was selected as the Most Valuable Player for Cypress Lakes and earned a Second Team All-District pick that season. Cates is also a two-time Academic All-District pick, earning the award in 2010 and 2011.
Personal
Cates is the son of Bill and Linda Cates and has two siblings, Robert and Mary. He is majoring in Biochemistry with a minor in Spanish at Southwestern.
